The Repopulation Moving To Unreal Engine 4, "Fragmented" Spin-Off Announced

The Repopulation was taken offline and subsequently removed from sale last month due to issues with Hero Engine and Idea Fabrik. For the past month, backers and players alike have been kept in suspense about the game's future. Rumors floated around about moving to a new engine, but nothing was confirmed—until now.

After carefully considering possible solutions, the team at Above and Beyond Technologies has decided that a move to Unreal Engine 4 would be best. But the team isn't just going to be porting The Repopulation. There will also be a survival spin-off called Fragmented.

Fragmented will be "similar to" a more action-oriented, "trimmed down," not-an-MMO version of The Repopulation. According to the announcement, "much of the code and assets will be shared between the two products." As with many other survival games, it will feature private servers with PvE, PvP, permadeath, and "accrued advancement" options. The Repopulation's crafting, harvesting, and skill systems will be employed in a streamlined manner.

"We didn’t want Repopulation fans to be sitting and waiting idly though while we frantically try to get the game ported to Unreal Engine," the announcement elaborates. Limited testing of Fragmented is set to begin in February, work originally having begun in mid-November. When it launches, it will be free for all users of The Repopulation.
