The Wagadu Chronicles is moving on to the next phase of development as indie developer Twin Drums kicks off Alpha 1 testing today. The playtest will run until 2:00 am PST on March 1st, giving Alpha 1 backers a chance to try out the upcoming afrofantasy MMO for an entire week.

During the Alpha 1 test, testers will get to explore two Wagadian islands and face off against the hungry Waka spirits protecting them. As they explore the islands, they’ll get to try out the game’s tactical combat, skill trees, gathering, crafting, trading, parties, guild quests, AI, and a PvP mini-game based on the African board game called Mancala. They’ll also have access to the character creator which offers several lineage options and variations.

Twin Drums launched a Kickstarter campaign back in 2020 to fund the game’s development, amassing nearly $200,000 in pledges and receiving backing from Valorant developer Riot Games. Alpha 1 backers should have already received their invites while non-backers can still signup here for a chance to participate in the game’s first alpha test.
