Last Friday, indie developer Square Root Studios announced that they were closing shop and will be ceasing all development on their flagship MMORPG TitanReach. This is just six months after an anonymous angel investor decided to fund the project with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Studio co-founder Unravel said that the reasons for the closure were private and that he wasn’t running off with the money just before all of the studio’s social media accounts suddenly went dark. Sounds fishy? Well, there’s actually more to the story as YouTuber KiraTV revealed in his video exposé. Being one of the first content creators to promote the game, is now singing a different tune, revealing insider information on the real reason behind the studio’s closure and the game’s cancellation.

KiraTV revealed that the anonymous investor is actually a real live person contrary to popular belief. He is believed to be South African software and crypto developer Andre Conje, who the YouTuber says is blameless with regard to the fiasco. Conje was apparently sending Unravel $300,000 a month to fund the game’s development and has been doing so for a few months when Unravel decided to borrow $150,000 to invest into cryptocurrency. As you can probably guess, Unravel lost all the money and decided to come clean with Conje out of guilt to which the latter responded by cutting the game’s funding.

“I f*cked up pretty bad,” Unravel wrote to Kira. “Out of all the amazing good and great things I have done on this journey, I made one fairly huge mistake. During the time I told you to go in on Wonderland, I was also in on it. Except I was in about 150k with company money and I lost most of it.”

“Andre sends me large amounts of money monthly for the game dev. One month I took half of that chunk (150k) and put it into TIME. You saw how that went. Anyway, I felt bad guilty AF and told Andre. He cut the funding,” he added.

According to Kira, Unravel also tried to bribe him since he was one of the few people who knew the identity of the angel investor and would have the means to question him about the closure. Unravel reportedly offered him a job at the studio or an undisclosed amount of cryptocurrency tokens to buy his silence.

“You are in a unique position to be able to destroy me and TitanReach,” said Unravel. “And for your silence or simply not making any video about what you know about this situation would allow this all to succeed. In return, I’d like you to join our team in some capacity or accept a gifted amount of tokens when we mint them. Sorry, I know that’s a lot to take in, think about it. I don’t want to be cancelled just yet.

Kira further claims that he also interviewed three Square Root employees who said that Unravel had misappropriated funds before the cryptocurrency incident, including buying a Tesla. And it doesn’t stop at the top. A Square Root employee was reportedly fired for impersonating Unravel and scamming Cronje for $250,000. When he got caught the employee agreed to give back $200,000 to avoid prosecution but was allowed to keep $50,000 to pay off medical bills.

As for the Discord and social media channels, Kira said that they were deactivated to make it more difficult for backers to report Unravel for fraud. Backers were also allegedly threatening to distribute his real name, address, and photos to the public.
