TitanReach Has Run Out Of Funding, Development Now In Limbo

Remember when Square Root Studios revealed late last year that they were running low on funds and that their flagship MMORPG TitanReach was in danger of shutting down? Well, that’s finally happened as the Australian indie studio finally throws in the towel after just a few short months into Early Access.

Square Root admitted that they were hoping to entice investors or publishers to back the game when it launched into Pre-Alpha Early Access back in March. All the while, they were continuously updating the game with new features and new content at minimum wage to try to stretch their rapidly dwindling funds. Unfortunately, that didn’t pan out and the team has decided to look for other jobs but will continue to work on the game on their free time.

“You may have seen things quiet in the last month,” said Square Root on Discord, “this is because we have been very low on funds and most of our team took a break to dilute the funds as much as possible until we land an investment. We opened our seed round about a month ago and sent our pitch deck off. We have had meetings but so far ultimately nobody has committed. These calls are still ongoing.

TitanReach is not closing down. We just can’t develop the game full time anymore. Our whole team will be looking for work (we are humans with needs). Some devs will leave the team. Development will be returning to a hobbyist state. This may change in the future as we are always open to investment opportunities.

According to Square Root, the game will still be accessible and, as far as we can tell, will still be free-to-play with potential updates in the future, but will be more or less in maintenance mode for the time being. One server will remain online along with the database server and the official site.

As for refunds, the team says that they won’t be able to refund money that they no longer have. Players who purchased the recently-released Closed Alpha Packs, however, have been given a full refund. Existing Credits will still be usable although the ability to purchase them has now been disabled.

“We just want to say thank you to everyone for the support over the months, both financially and with morale. We couldn’t have come this far without every one of you,” concluded the unfortunate announcement.
