Valheim Brings Back Midsummer Items, Improves Save Files, And Optimizes Performance

Iron Gate has a new update for Valheim that brings back midsummer items, with a big chunk of it dedicated to optimizing performance in the Viking survival game. With the update’s release, the Maypole and Midsummer Crown items are once again available through the end of the season and for the first time for Xbox users.

The rest of the patch focuses on improving various backend systems of the game to decrease loading times and generally make the game run faster and better. These include improvements to memory management and networking in both new and existing, previously explored worlds.

Save files have also seen significant improvements with the latest game update. The size of save files has been reduced and the “Manage Saves” menu has been optimized for faster loading. The team also rolled out bug fixes to address GUI problems when deleting saves.

Additionally, users now have the option to restore the most recent functional backup via the select world menu in cases of corrupted world saves, loading errors, or missing meta files. Subsequently, a permanent backup will also now be created when starting a world in a new game version. To maintain consistency and stability, the latest patch now prevents loading into a world created in a newer game version than the one that the player has installed.

The update also includes platform-specific fixes and quality-of-life updates, including fixes for the mini-map pin issues on Steam Deck and Big Picture Mode and UI scaling for the Xbox version.

The update might not be content-heavy but a little housekeeping is always appreciated. You can check out the full patch notes on the Valheim official site.
