Vindictus Announces a Slew of New Events, Potentially Loses its Mind with Cash Shop Items

There's good, and then there's bad. I suppose bad is to be expected - with every Korean Free-to-Play MMO, there is always a P2W aspect. Vindictus isn't just an example - it's one of the laws, and has been ever since 2010, at the earliest. Lets start with the good!

Recently, we covered the Teide Registration Event, and its announcement. Now, a comprehensive list of Hurk's Teide skills is out! Reading into this will let players get a decent grasp of how Hurk is supposed to operate in a fight. To top it off, the "Whole New Hurk" event will be running from August 30th until September 27th.

Players can participate in some good, old-fashioned bingo, and earn some exclusive emotes. Vindictus has never taken itself seriously with its emotes - and they are just about as silly as you can expect Valve's Source engine to be. Additionally, all Hurk characters will earn +100% EXP and AP until September 14th - and more!

And now, here's the bad. No, not the endless, mindless gacha boxes being sold for just short of $50. No, not the new outfits - I like new outfits! No, this abomination.

The RISE Update was supposed to make Vindictus more accessible to new and free-to-play players, dang it Nexon. Being fair to Vindictus, they often have events where runes are given away like candy. In Vindictus, weapons and armor are a long-term investment, unlike other MMOs. Content updates come so sparingly that gear can last for over a year or two, before it gets outdated. However, I fear that this rune will just act as a bait for players to spend more and more money in the cash shop. Ultimately, the goal of any company is to make money, but I feel this may cross a bit of a line - dividing the people who play Vindictus casually and for fun, and the people who spend gratuitous amounts of money even further.
