VR World Sansar Is Coming Soonish: The Next Second Life

Imagine the wacky and creative worlds of Second Life but as a virtual reality experience and you end up with Sansar: Linden Labs' next project that is coming soon[ish]. A few hundred creators—people who make assets to be used in the world—were recently invited to test out Sansar, according to VentureBeat.

As with Second Life, players with some artistic motivation will be able to create their own worlds, items, clothes, etc. and sell them on a virtual marketplace for real digital money. Of course, the market will function through Sansar dollars which will have a cash value.

Sansar is interesting, because it is built for virtual reality headsets first, for devices like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. But VR has not been a roaring success. And I'm not sure that Sansar will have a teeming community from Day 1 because of the limited market adoption of VR headsets. But I admire what Linden Labs is trying to accomplish: a fully realized player-drived virtual world.

I will be checking it out when Sansar launches.
