If you’re looking to shed a few extra pounds as part of your new year’s resolution, step counter MMORPG Walkscape might just help you reach your goal. It’s basically a mobile game where your daily step counts translate to in-game progress instead of the traditional grind.

“Getting to level 99 has never been so healthy!” reads the game’s description.

“WalkScape is a game inspired by some old school MMORPGs,” said solo developer Incremental Games. “But this game has one major trick up its sleeve: You don’t play actively but instead gain progress by walking. You can expect a fun and exciting journey through the World of Arenum while also having the motivation to walk!”

According to the indie studio, the app is heavily inspired by RuneScape and its even struck up a licensing deal with Jagex to use the classic MMORPG in its marketing. It’s currently still in development with plans to kick off closed beta testing on January 18.

“There are still some tasks remaining before the release, mainly polishing and adding more content to the game. I am really hoping that the initial release goes well,” said the dev.

Walkscape will be available on Android and iOS devices with no ads or microtransactions whatsoever, so you can focus on grinding those miles with no distractions.
