World Of Warships Gets Review Bombed Following Anniversary Reward Nerfs

World of Warships players have waged war on the WWII naval shooter by bombarding it with negative reviews on Steam. The ongoing review bombing has caused the game to take a massive hit to its overall review ranking which took a nosedive from Mostly Positive to Overwhelmingly Negative in less than a week.

The review bombing started when Wargaming announced its plans to nerf the rewards for World of Warship’s upcoming anniversary event. The reviews mostly centered around the game’s stingy rewards and bad monetization, which the studio promptly responded to by readjusting the anniversary rewards along with an explanation for why they decided to cut back on this year’s goodies.

According to the devs, most World of Warships events were designed to entice players to collect as many ships as possible. Some longtime players now have overly large ship collections that it’s significantly increased their chances to obtain even more rewards, which is now negatively affecting the in-game economy.

“Over the last 8 years the game’s ship selection has expanded to over 600, including both those obtained via the premium shop, as well as via new free unlock paths like coal, free XP, research points,” Wargaming explained. “What follows is that along with their growing ship collection, the amount of anniversary rewards players have been able to collect each year has also grown.”

It’s worth noting that Wargaming wouldn’t have had a problem with review bombing if players had a way to better communicate with the developers, which they lost when the studio decided to unceremoniously shut down the World of Warships official forums last month in favor of Discord. The alleged censorship on the Discord server only served to encourage players to seek another way of catching the developer’s attention, which they undoubtedly succeeded in.

The good news is that Megadeth is now in World of Warships. You can check that out in the new trailer below.
