The era of video game forums looks like it’ll soon be coming to an end as another development studio makes the jump to Discord. Wargaming shut down the World of Warships official forums this past weekend in favor of the popular video game messaging and VoIP platform.

The studio cites behavioral trends in the gaming community and the video game industry in general as well as the forums’ aging infrastructure as the main reasons for the switch. Plus, players were apparently flocking to Discord anyway.

Wargaming has opened several Discord servers for multiple languages and is encouraging players to sign-up with promises of Discord drops, regular events, and peer-to-peer assistance. The team is also giving away a bundle of in-game goodies for those who sign up.

“We understand that it can be hard to adapt to new community platforms; however, this end only signals a new beginning, as we’re now transitioning our communication and activities to our dedicated Discord servers,” the studio explains. “We understand that this is a big change, and we’re here to help.”

Most players aren’t happy with the switch, however, with most complaints aimed at Discord’s lack of features compared to an actual MMO forum. Whether World of Warplanes and World of Tanks will follow suit remains to be seen.
