Wrath Of The Lich King Classic Will Have Heroic+ Dungeons Reveals Lead Designer

world of warcraft mmorpg secrets of ulduar art

One of the hooks for players waiting for Wrath of the Lich King Classic is that they’ll get to relive memories from a more simplistic time in World of Warcraft, with none of the new features and mechanics that have been added to the current version over the years. Apparently, they’re going to have to settle for an experience that’s a bit like the original expansion but with concessions made for the newer generation of players.

These changes include the ability to queue up for battlegrounds matches from anywhere instead of having to visit the designated NPC. Players will also be able to purchase race and faction change vouchers just in case they have a change of heart or want to try something new.

Another big change coming to Wrath of the Lich King Classic is related to raid and dungeon loot. In a Twitch interview (via Wowhead), lead game designer Kris Zierhut revealed that dungeon loot from 10-man raids in Phase 1 will be updated to drops from 25-man raids when Ulduar opens its gates in Phase 2. The loot from Phase 1 10-man raids, in turn, will be moved to Heroic Dungeons on increased difficulty.

“[One of our goals is] making sure Heroic dungeons stay attractive throughout the entire expansion. The Emblems and items they drop should always be valuable, even late in the expansion,” Blizzard explained. “They should also remain an interesting challenge throughout the entire expansion, rather than becoming excessively easy as your gear improves. We are exploring plans to add challenges to Heroic dungeons as the expansion proceeds, which would also provide more valuable rewards.”

It's still unclear how players will be able to increase the difficulty of Heroic Dungeons although it probably won’t involve affixes and key levels. It’s still too early to say though given the growing list of changes that have been announced for Wrath of the Lich King Classic which was initially supposed to launch with no changes whatsoever except for the controversial removal of the dungeon finder system.

Wrath of the Lich King Classic will be making landfall just a few days from now, on September 26th. In the meantime, you can check out the brand-new “Journey” trailer below.
