Blizzard Is Closing Several Burning Crusade Classic Realms In August

It’s been over a year since The Burning Crusade Classic opened its realms and its population has now dropped enough to require intervention from Blizzard. To keep the server populations healthy, the team will be shuttering a total of 21 realms during the August 10th weekly maintenance and will be moving its players to more active ones.

Players on the affected servers will be given Free Character Transfers and are advised to use them prior to August 10th to facilitate a smoother transfer. Those that fail to do so will have their characters automatically moved to a corresponding destination realm and their characters may be unavailable for two weeks after the transfer.

The good news is that Blizzard will be removing the restrictions on transferring from a Normal realm to a PvP realm in Burning Crusade Classic in the next few weeks. “At that time, we will open additional Free Character Transfers from underpopulated Normal realms wherever appropriate, and we will remove the rule on PvP realms that prevents players from having characters in both factions on the same PvP realm in Burning Crusade Classic,” Blizzard said.

You’ll find the full list of retiring servers here. You can also find out more about how to transfer characters in this support article.
