Wrath of the Lich King Classic has unlocked the second phase of its content lineup with the release of its Secrets of Ulduar update. The marquee feature of the update is a reworked version of the fan-favorite Ulduar raid which has been adjusted to be as challenging as it was when it first came out in 2009 although it will probably be nerfed again once the more hardcore players have had their fill.

“Pre-nerf versions of most encounters represent a significant difficulty increase over how these encounters functioned in patch 3.3.5, and item power increases should give Ulduar a satisfying gear and boss kill progression, and make effort needed to clear the ‘Hard Mode’ versions of some encounters feel significantly more rewarding,” Blizzard explained.

The update also introduced an optional game mode called Titan Rune Dungeons that players can activate to increase the difficulty of Wrath of the Lich King’s heroic dungeons. To trigger the new game mode, all five players in the party will need to interact with the Mysterious Device located near each dungeon’s entrance to initiate Defense Protocol Alpha.

“Activating Defense Protocol Alpha will increase the health and damage of the creatures in the dungeon, as well as add a new thematic gameplay effect based on the theme of the dungeon,” said the devs.

Loot drops in Eye of Eternity, Naxxramas, and the Obsidian Sanctum have also been tweaked to account for the new game mode. Items that previously dropped from the 25-player versions of these raids will now also drop in their 10-player versions and items that dropped from the 10-player versions will now also drop in heroic dungeons when Defense Protocol Alpha is activated.
