Despite Microsoft’s insistence that it won’t be abandoning Redfall in the aftermath of its disappointing launch, it appears as if soldiering on is no longer a viable option. Unfortunately, the studio will not only be pulling the plug on the vampire co-op shooter but will also be shutting down its developer Arkane Austin along with it, but not without one final update.

Game Update 4 promises an offline mode that will allow everyone who purchased the game to continue playing indefinitely. The update will also add a pause feature for single-player mode and will revamp Nest encounters and the Neighborhood system.

Refall first launched in May 2023 to mostly negative reviews complaining about optimization issues, lackluster gameplay, and forced co-op due to the lack of an offline mode and character abilities that were designed to work in tandem with other characters but were basically useless on their own. While some players noted the game’s potential, Arkane Austin struggled to fix the issues quickly enough to prevent players from abandoning the game just a few months after its rocky launch, and now they won’t ever get the chance.

Game Update 4 was originally planned to come out sometime this month, but it will probably take a bit longer as Arkane Austin begins winding down its operations.
