Fractured Veil Bids Aloha as Hawaii-Themed Survival Game Shuts Down
The cutthroat world of survival sandbox games has claimed another victim as Paddle Creek Games officially announced the shutdown of Fractured Veil earlier this week. The Hawaii-themed multiplayer survival sandbox just launched into Steam Early Access earlier this year but has now been pulled from Steam for reasons unknown, although if you’ve been following its development, you probably have a good idea of why Paddle Creek decided to pull the plug.
“Today we’ve made the tough decision to stop development on Fractured Veil,” Paddle Creek tweeted. “A big Mahalo to everyone who helped and supported us through the years.” While the game’s development may have been cut short, Paddle Creek assured players that the Discord server will remain active for at least a few more months.
Originally introduced to the world via a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2021, Fractured Veil raised over $110,000, giving fans high hopes for a unique survival experience set in a post-apocalyptic Maui. The game promised players a sprawling 64 square kilometers of open world, dungeons, and nightmare-inducing creatures. But despite its lush Hawaiian backdrop, the game struggled to gain a steady player base. Its early access launch back in January saw just 129 peak concurrent players, and reviews quickly skewed negative, citing long load times, clunky combat, and lackluster inventory management.
Even with its ambitious goals, Fractured Veil couldn’t escape the fate of dwindling player interest. Development delays pushed back the initial 2022 release date multiple times, and once the game finally arrived on Steam, it struggled to deliver on its promises… and now it won’t ever be able to do so.
Surprisingly, the Steam page is still live as of this writing, although the Fractured Veil Twitter page seems to have been the first to go offline.
