Kingdom Under Fire 2 Picks Jarring Music For Its Trailer

Putting together game trailers is an art: editors have to make a game look epic and the music underlying whatever visuals you show should foster that epicness. Somebody at the Kingdom Under Fire 2 studio goofed.

The below "Epic Raid Teaser," (as provided by the venerable Steparu) starts out fine enough, with a mystical guitar and ominous wind rush, setting up what I thought would be a fantastical orchestra or some heavy ensemble ushering in the chaos of too-many-NPCs-on-one screen combat. Instead, someone smashes a snare and Indie rock music blares.

"Whooaahh.... Whooaahh..." who picked this soundtrack? "Do ya FEEL it!... Do ya FEEL ALIVE?" Well, I guess the game's alive, since it is being published in Russia by Innova Systems.

It came across as silly and jarring to me. Out of place for what I was seeing on screen, even though the "WHOAHs" were timed pretty well for the transitions. But maybe my ear sucks. I would've been fine if Kingdom Under Fire 2 used "Juicy" instead—shows my bias.

What do you think of the music choice in the trailer below? Am I overreacting or am I on to something?

Kingdom Under Fire 2 - Epic Raid Teaser

From Mega Man II to Ape Escape, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. I've spent months killing porings in Ragnarok Online and more recently lived a second life in Eve Online. I usually play as gUMBY, gUMBLEoni, or gUMBLes in-game.
