The Weekly Raid: Does Playing With Friends/Family Help Or Hurt?

Get your pitchforks ready because we're about to turn brother-against-brother, friend-against-friend. Are those closest to you holding back your gaming experience? Do you have the potential to go Plat but you're one friend you queue with is just terrible? I listen to people play MOBAs while sitting in Discord, and boy-o-boy it sure does sound like one or two people like to blame the rest for ruining the game.

Is playing games like being the only person in a band who can play an instrument; if you want to go on a world tour you have to ditch the slackers?

I remember another friend who wouldn't queue with his buddies in ranked Rocket League because he didn't want to hurt his score. Though he had—and has—no potential to go pro, that little number meant so much to his ego that he suggested, "Let's play unranked, yeah?"

Personally, I don't care. Win or lose, I prefer to play with my friends and family. They're the main reason I have fun in multiplayer games. But for some players, I imagine progressing in a game means more than social ties.

Does playing with friends and family hurt your ability to advance in games? Let us know in the comments below!

This Weekly Raid is not original, but an EcoBotsGaming™ production. Thanks Eco!

From Mega Man II to Ape Escape, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. I've spent months killing porings in Ragnarok Online and more recently lived a second life in Eve Online. I usually play as gUMBY, gUMBLEoni, or gUMBLes in-game.
