What We Played This Past Week: March 21, 2017

Welcome to a new weekly editorial (maybe), where each of the MMOs.com crew discusses what we've been playing since the last Podcast. Though we're the MMOs site, we don't only play MMOs in our free time—hence this article's banner—and we want to share those games with you guys and hear about what you've been playing.

Especially since we don't always get to elaborate completely in the Podcast.

Omer: Got back into League of Legends lately. Mostly because I've been playing with some friends: played with Whichi, Akizea, Riceyz, and a couple Discord buddies. Also finished my placements in Overwatch—I'm at 3100 rating. I did some of my dailies in Revelation Online, but my highlight in Revelation was buying hematites on the auction house for 1900 coins and reselling in my personal shop for 4250 near the crafting NPC. So many people bought them because they don't know the auction house exists. I also hopped on Final Fantasy XIV for the first time in a few weeks and reconnected with some old free company friends and some of my addict casino customers.

Erhan: This week I continued grinding my Fireball/Ignite Witch in Path of Exile. Finishing Act 4 Merciless and trading for a new ring, belt, and shield were the major milestones. I finally skilled Chaos Inoculation which caps my max health at 1 but grants Chaos Damage Immunity. This means I have to rely solely on my ‘Energy Shield’ to stay alive. I’m still a glass cannon—thank goodness I’m not playing Hardcore League. Besides that, I’ve continued to put in a few minutes a day towards Fire Emblem Heroes. It’s getting stale, but Nintendo keeps throwing in special maps with orb rewards so I keep clearing ‘em.

Sean: I've been taking a break from Revelation Online dailies and focusing my time on single-player RPGs. The Nintendo Switch has been a fun system to mess around with—mainly because I can play it in bed, and Breath of the Wild has shown me what Open World games can be: stepping away from regurgitating the same tropes. I've also made a return to Natural Selection 2, my favorite FPS of all-time. But I've mainly been addicted to NieR: Automata. It's brilliant, with an idiosyncratic personality; despite optimization issues, it's the perfect blend of engaging combat, a mind-body narrative that doesn't spoon-feed—along with some fun existentialist quips—and a wonderfully charming world. I'll probably put together my thoughts in a review.

Matt: I haven't played much in the past week. I was visiting family and then I was sick for a few days. I did get around to starting both Rain World and Styx: Shards of Darkness, though. Rain World is turning out to be an extremely impressive Metroidvania that's constantly keeping me on my toes. Styx: Shards of Darkness is a pretty good follow-up to the original Styx thus far and I've really been enjoying the addition of co-op. Of course, I had to put it on Goblin difficulty, so it's also been somewhat of a struggle, but it's been fun nonetheless. I'm also starting to get back into arcade game emulation and have started playing Pop'n Music éclale. Those of you who know the series probably know how hard it is to play on a keyboard. Yep. I'm playing it on a keyboard.

But let us know what you've been playing this last week. Any recommendations for the MMOs.com crew—MMO or otherwise? Any disappointments, *Cough,* maybe a big budget recent AAA release? Let us know in the comments below!

From Mega Man II to Ape Escape, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. I've spent months killing porings in Ragnarok Online and more recently lived a second life in Eve Online. I usually play as gUMBY, gUMBLEoni, or gUMBLes in-game.
