Abyss Online is heading into early access next month and developer Old World Labs is polishing up the blockchain game turned free-to-play sandbox MMORPG in preparation for launch day. That includes an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.3 which not only enhanced the game’s visuals but also improved its overall performance. The studio has also been conducting regular server tests and expanded the testing to include Mac users.

“Abyss’ vibrant open world is filled with elements that bring fantasy and science fiction together. Inter-dimensional gates have mysteriously surfaced throughout the world disrupting the balance of the universe. These gates bring with them new elements from different worlds and eras of time. While adventuring; discover lush forests, towering mountains, and desolate wastelands or get transported to otherworldly realms while searching for treasure and answers as to why these gates are here.”

On the subject of testing, Old World Labs is planning a final alpha test leading up to Abyss Online’s early access launch. The studio has yet to announce a date for the playtest, but it will apparently run longer than previous testing runs to give testers more time to take all of the new things for a spin before launch day. That includes new 200-player maps, revamped visuals and animations, and better procedural-generation.

Early access launch is set for April 18 with several updates already in the pipeline to see the game through to its full release later this year. The game itself will set you back $24.95 with plans to offer an optional subscription that will grant various VIP perks like lower taxes and reduced fast travel fees. It’s still available to pre-purchase on the official site if you’re looking to get into the next closed alpha test.
