Activision Subpoenas Reddit To Identify Call Of Duty ‘Battle Royale’ Leaker

call of duty activision recon bannerLast week, the gaming community was treated to a leaked video clip and cover art of the upcoming Call of Duty Battle Royale mode. The clip quickly went viral as fans shared it and re-shared it all across the world wide web. Of course, Activision wasn’t happy with the leak and proceeded to track down every last tweet, post, and YouTube video mentioning the new mode and slapped them with copyright infringement claims.

According to Gizmodo, the company spent the last week issuing subpoenas to Reddit to identify the leakers. How effective the subpoenas will be remains to be seen considering that Reddit never hosted the leaked image and video on their site in the first place. On top of that, Reddit also set a precedent when they faced a similar issue last year. A former Jehovah’s Witness member posted several controversial copyrighted works and managed to remain anonymous in spite of the subpoenas.
