Allods Online players getting tired of being kicked around by big groups in the Melting Isle PvP zone will be happy to know that they’ll reign of terror will be coming to an end. The popular PvP instance will be returning with a few significant adjustments in the upcoming Gates of Worlds update to shake things up in the next season.

The basic mechanics of the frigid island will remain the same – players will need to collect as many reward chests as they can while keeping their death count to the absolute minimum. The raid vs. raid mechanic, however, will be changed to free-for-all which means that players will no longer be able to group up in the instance.

“The ability to assemble a group or raid on a location caused the activity to displace the entire audience of free-lance open PvP fans and turned into a tool of politics between the leading guilds of the server. Now it will be impossible to assemble a group/raid on the Melting Isle, and the ability of players to cooperate in battle will be severely restricted.”

All character names within the instance will also be replaced with “Treasure Hunter” to make it harder for players to band together and form an alliance. The speed of all combat vehicles and racers will also be set to a certain speed to ensure that everyone is on equal footing regardless of the speed of the original speed of their vehicle.

The team will also be shortening the duration of the PvP event to just 30 minutes twice a day. They’ll also be adding new pickable effects that will randomly spawn across the map to encourage more player movement and prevent zerging.

“They will appear in dozens of possible locations, and the effect can be either passive (a bonus to damage/defense) or active (a one-time contextual skill). Effects vary greatly in strength and rarity: especially lucky and fast treasure hunters will find skills of invisibility, invulnerability, and even the ability to instantly kill another player with a scope!”

Chest spawning will also be changed to force players to defend their rewards instead of simply negotiating with each other to see who gets what. Chests will no longer need to “melt” before they can be opened and can be picked up instantly but they’ll have to wait 10 minutes before they can claim what’s inside.

“You can continue to collect treasure, but each time this effect will accumulate and renew over time. Particularly ‘greedy’ hunters will begin to receive negative effects as the ‘weight’ of unopened chests accumulates: from reduced running speed and inability to collect spheres to the global visibility of their location on the map.”

“The task is complicated by the fact that after each death of a character his half of the accumulated "Closed Chests" goes to the assassin,” said the devs. “If the number of effects is odd, it is rounded in favor of the assassin accordingly. Now each player has to build his own tactic of behavior on the Melting Island: hide and wait, or constantly wander around the entire location, or go the aggressive way and hunt other treasure hunters!”

The team has yet to announce a release date for the Gates of Worlds update but promises to reveal more information soon. You can also head over to the Allods Online official site to learn more about the upcoming changes.
