Apex Legends Rolls Out Balance Changes, Talks About Their Development Philosophy

apex legends mirage pointingNo game is perfect from the get-go. There’s always tweaking and rebalancing to be done, especially for PvP games, even for a game that managed to rack up 50 million players in its first month. You probably already know where I’m going with this. Respawn Entertainment has just rolled out a balance update for Apex Legends, and the game designers have taken to the game’s subreddit to talk about it.

“A core philosophy of our development process for Apex Legends is to listen to player feedback, parse through all the data we get from the game, try things, and then playtest them a ton to get them just right. And… repeat. [. . .] Our goal is to make less frequent, better tested, higher impact changes, so it minimizes the effects on your time spent mastering a particular mechanic, weapon, character, etc. You shouldn't have to read our patch notes every few days just to keep up with how characters and weapons now work.”

The balance update nerfs Wingman and Peacekeeper, increases the availability of energy weapons and ammo, and reduces the hitbox size for Caustic, Pathfinder, and Gibraltar among others. A number of skills have also been rebalanced such as Caustic’s traps, Pathfinder’s Insider Knowledge, Lifeline’s Care Package, Wraith’s Into The Void, and Bangalore’s Double Time.
