ArcheAge Players Awarded With $420K As Settlement For Four-Year Consumer Class-Action Lawsuit
Back in 2015, three ArcheAge players filed a class-action lawsuit against Trion Worlds for allegedly violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, Unfair Competition Law, and False Advertising Law when the company failed to provide the advertised 10% cash shop discount to founders pack owners. The suit also claims that the company also violated California’s illegal lottery law when it sold supply crates which contained in-game items of varying values. The class-action suit then got stuck in arbitration and was further complicated when Trion Worlds shut down in 2018 leaving Gamigo and Golden Gate Games with the company’s assets.
In August last year, we reported that the legal proceedings are finally coming to a close and that both parties have agreed to a settlement which will be handled by Trion Worlds’ insurance company Navigators Insurance. The full details of the settlement have now been released on the ArcheAge settlement website.
“An insurer for Trion Worlds, the maker of ArcheAge, has agreed to establish a settlement fund of $420,000 from which eligible players may make a claim for a cash payment. The fund will also be used to pay settlement administration expenses, court-awarded service awards, and court-awarded attorneys’ fees and expenses.
You may be entitled to benefits from a class action settlement if you either purchased supply crates in the ArcheAge Marketplace before October 22, 2018, or you purchased Patron status before the launch of the ArcheAge game and also purchased one or more items in the ArcheAge Marketplace before October 22, 2018, while maintaining Patron status.”
If you believe you’re entitled to a piece of the pie, you’ll have to fill up a claim form and submit it by March 13, 2020. The amount you're entitled to will depend on how many players file a claim and how much you spent. You can also object to the settlement, opt out, or do nothing. You can also speak out at the Final Approval Hearing which will be held on April 17th at 3pm PST. Find out more by visiting the ArcheAge Settlement website.
