ARK: Survival Evolved Officially Shuts Down, Remaster Arriving At The End Of October

“We aren’t meant to live forever.” That’s the title of ARK: Survival Evolved’s farewell video as the dinosaur-themed survival sandbox officially shuts down. Developer Studio Wildcard also penned a dev blog thanking players for their support over the years with a reminder that the game will live on in ARK: Survival Ascended and future ARK titles.

Speaking of the remaster, Studio Wildcard says that it’s still on track for release at the end of October. ARK: Survival Ascended will launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox consoles with cross-play support from day one. It will also be launching on Steam on the same day but without cross-play, which is expected to arrive in December, followed by cross-progression sometime in 2024.

The studio described the timeline as a “Wildcard ETA” and notes that it isn’t set in stone. Whether this applies to the October release is still unclear. They also reiterated their reason for shutting down ARK: Survival Evolved and outlined what content and features will be available on launch day in an accompanying FAQ, with a promise to release gameplay screenshots and a trailer for ARK: Survival Ascended ahead of the remaster’s official launch later this month.

“Some might consider the upcoming transition a bittersweet occasion punctuated by a sense of loss and sadness,” the studio said. “But, as one chapter concludes, another unfolds – and again our stories will mix with yours to create something greater than the sum of two parts.”
