Ascent: The Space Game Gets Absurdly Priced Ship DLC

Late last night, new DLC launched for the Early Access MMO4XRPG, Ascent: The Space Game. It was not a content pack or subscription time. Instead, the developers have decided to try taking the Star Citizen route by offering absurdly priced DLC spaceships—a second ship can be found hereto help fund development beyond the game's initial box fee and optional subscription. The store pages for each of the new ships attempt to make it painfully clear that they are for veteran players only, being suited to specific tasks that new players won't need them for, that they can be difficult to fly, and that they are there to fund "development, artwork, and hopefully some UI work." With neither page mentioning anything about their combat abilities, they seem to be there solely to help development and offer players a faster way to get around their colonies or a more hefty ship to haul cargo around in but the price is disconcerting, nonetheless.
