Bitcraft developer Clockwork Labs has been relatively quiet over the past few months aside from a few dev blogs here and there. The latest news is that the studio has secured $22 million during a Series A funding round led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). Roblox founder and CEO David Baszucki also participated as a private investor.

Baszucki and a16z join the Clockwork Lab’s growing list of big-name investors, including CCP Games CEO Hilmar Petursson, Supercell, and Unity co-founder David Helgason. The studio also gave credit to Skycatcher, a Texas-based investment management firm that provided the first major funding to help jumpstart the game’s development.

The funds will be used to hire additional developers to work on the community sandbox MMORPG and the proprietary database technology behind it. The game is currently in pre-Alpha testing and is expected to hit Alpha later this year.
