Pearl Abyss is gearing up for a massive war in Black Desert Online as the studio shows off the fantasy MMORPG’s upcoming War of the Roses mode in its latest developer video. The new mode will work just like Conquest Wars except that it will pit one faction against another in a massive 300vs300 battle.

War of the Roses will take place across O’dyllita and Kamasylvia with completely new tactics and rules. It will not only be larger in scope but will also give players a shorter time to prepare for battle in an effort to make it accessible to a lot more players.

Starting castles will be available in each territory and will serve as an assembly point for the fighters of each faction. Teams will be made up of a leading guild that has completed certain requirements with the remaining slots to be filled up by individual “mercenary” players. Stationed in each castle is an NPC commander that the opposing faction must defeat to secure victory.

During the battle, players will also need to capture Sanctums and Spirit’s Altars to aid their faction in its quest to defeat the NPC commanders. The former will not only grant the controlling faction buffs but will also serve as respawn points, while the latter will give them access to unique siege weapons. Factions can also engage in naval battles to gain access to castle wharfs and gain a footing deep inside enemy lines.

Once the War of the Roses begins, participants will have their map replaced with a tactical version that will be covered by a fog of war and hides both friendly and enemy units. Only the captain of the team will be able to see the position of each friendly unit and their field of vision to help them coordinate movements and attacks using context commands that will be shown on every allied player’s maps.

The new mode will be coming to the Korean version of the game on October 15th, with a global release planned in the future. You can catch a glimpse of the new mode in the new developer commentary video below.
