Bungie Publishes Massive Destiny 2 "State of the Game"

Bungie has not had the best week recently, with Destiny 2's problems. The first time we heard of an XP issue was when Destiny 2 was slowing players' XP gains the faster they were earning them. Bungie fixed that issue, but then it came to light that the amount of XP needed to level was increased from 80,000 to 160,000. Talk about a painful experience.

Bungie ultimately ended up cancelling a livestream, and instead has published an absolutely massively large "The State of Destiny 2" blog post, which you can check out here. Lets look over some highlights of this "State of Destiny 2" blog post.

  • New weapon tier: Masterworks, featuring stat trackers, random & re-rollable stat bonuses, unique tooltips
  • Better incentives for Prestige activities
  • Better rewards and replay value for Strikes, Adventures, and Lost Sectors.
  • Private matches for Crucible
  • Changes to XP Mechanics, Bungie admits 160K XP is too slow, and has begun to re-calibrate XP once again.
Personal Thoughts

It's clear Bungie is stressing about something, when they make a blog post this big. Is Destiny 2 adoption not as big as they hope? Is Player Retention incredibly low? Does Bungie have a fetishistic urge to constantly be adjusting XP values? Bungie are not always incredibly transparent, and it's clear that microtransactions are going to eventually creep their way into Triple-A games. Hell, they already are creeping their way in - look at Bethesda's "Creation Club," that forces you to pay for mods, and Activision's addition of "Call of Duty Points" to their recent CoD games. Considering Bungie's less-than-stellar track record, how much can their playerbase trust them to not mess this up? It remains to be seen.
