CCP Games Cancels San Diego EVE Event And All 2021 Events Amid The COVID-19 Pandemic

eve online fan event bannerBack in February, when the world was just beginning to feel the effects of COVID-19, CCP Games made the decision to cancel this year’s EVE Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland to ensure the safety of both the fans and their employees. Today, the studio has announced that they’ve also pulled the San Diego EVE event in September along with all EVE Online events scheduled for 2021.

“Due to the ongoing global circumstances surrounding the spread of COVID-19, we have decided to cancel the official EVE event in San Diego that was scheduled to take place between 18-19 September 2020. The safety and well-being of our players, staff and the general public remains absolutely paramount, so we feel the decision not to go ahead with the San Diego event represents the most responsible course of action available to us at this time. We would also like to share that we will not be hosting any physical CCP events in 2021.”

CCP Games, however, assures players and fans that they’ll be hosting more digital events in lieu of the cancelled ones. “We intend to focus more on delivering you amazing digital experiences that everyone can enjoy from the comfort of their home,” says the studio. “Therefore, we will be increasing our support for community-led events in 2021 by actively promoting player gatherings, increasing dev presence, and providing swag that every Capsuleer will long to have in their collection!”
