In a not-at-all-surprising turn of events, Pearl Abyss has announced that they will be delaying the launch of Crimson Desert indefinitely.

“We have decided that we need to dedicate more time to adding new ideas for an even deeper, more enriching game,” tweeted Pearl Abyss. “Therefore, in order to create the best possible experience, all while ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved in delivering the game, we have decided to delay Crimson Desert’s release. We will provide an updated schedule in the future.”

After six months of silence, Pearl Abyss resurfaced earlier this month with a video showing actors doing motion capture work for the Black Desert Online spinoff. Back then, it was already evident that the team won’t be making their winter 2021 target release date. At least now we have actual confirmation from the studio.

Crimson Desert was first announced in 2019 along with monster-taming Digimon-ish MMORPG DokeV and the cancelled exosuit shooter PLAN 8. Official gameplay footage would be revealed a year later in December 2020 along with the announcement that the game will be leaning more towards a multiplayer action adventure game rather than a full-blown MMORPG.
