Dark And Darker’s Pre-Alpha Test Under Fire From A ‘Sophisticated’ DDoS Attack

When Dark and Darker developer Ironmace got slapped with a DMCA complaint late last month, the studio assured the upcoming dungeon crawler’s community that there was nothing to worry about.

Not only has the game been kicked off Steam and is facing a lawsuit over allegedly swiped code, but it's now dealing with a problematic alpha playtest. The playtest is apparently being targeted by “sophisticated and powerful” DDoS attacks that are causing major disruptions and issues. The studio has been pushing out one hotfix after another in the hopes of stopping the attacks, but it looks like they’ve got their work cut out for them.

“We have been experiencing sophisticated DDoS attacks since the very start of this playtest,” studio rep revealed on Discord. “Our server quality has not changed at all from previous playtests. As of right now, there is not much we can do to immediately fix the situation, but we are constantly trying our best to keep them stablised.”

With Nexon dragging Ironmace to court over claims of stolen code and assets from Project P3, things aren’t looking too good for the multiplayer dungeon crawler. Ironmace even tried to raise money for legal fees through a GoFundMe page, but quickly shut it down. Whether the studio and the game will be able to survive the incessant DDOS attacks and Nexon’s lawsuit remains to be seen.
