Diablo 3 Rise Of The Necromancer Pack Arrives June 27

Blizzard has announced the release date for the first Diablo 3 'content pack.' Rise of the Necromancer, which has been in closed beta testing since May, will release on June 27 across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. It will cost $15.

That $15 gets you access to the new Necromancer class along with the following digital items:

  • Non-combat pet
  • A pair of cosmetic wings
  • New Necromancer-themed Banner Shape, Sigil, and Accent
  • Necromancer Portrait Frame
  • Pennant
  • Two additional character slots
  • Two additional stash tabs

The Content Pack is accompanied by Patch 2.6.0 which will include content free to all players, whether they chose to purchase the Necromancer update or not. Challenge Rifts, The Shrouded Moors zone, Temple of the Firstborn zone, and the Realms of Fate will all be free provided you own the Reaper of Souls expansion pack.

As expected, the Rise of the Necromancer Content Pack is a digital-only product with no physical version available for any platform. This is in stark contrast to previous Diablo franchise products. Hopefully a trend Blizzard will stick to going forward.

While its always nice to see new content released for a retail game originally sold 5 years ago, its difficult not to compare the rather meager offerings of the $15 package compared to the massive, free update scheduled for Path of Exile. As a free to play competitor to Diablo 3, Path of Exile offers the same isometric action RPG gameplay, but with a more traditional art style inspired by Diablo 2. Path of Exile's Fall of Oriath update is adding 5 new acts along with balance updates, ui changes, and much more.
