Dragon’s Prophet ‘Copycat’ Re-launches On Steam

dragons prophet mounted bannerIt’s been nearly five years since Daybreak Games shut down the US version of Dragon’s Prophet and nearly three months since Gamigo took the EU version offline. The game, however, seems to have been recently relaunched on Steam by a relatively unknown studio called BOBYGAME whose legitimacy is being called into question by a Redditor who claims he was a former employee of Infernum, the game’s publisher in Europe.

“Seems like an attempt at a private server perhaps?

I used to work for the EU company that originally published this game (Infernum) and it seems like they are using the exact website (design and functionality) as we did, just with a new forum board and support portal as they wouldn’t have access to that. They are also using the same “Dragon of the Week” events as we did.

Their Privacy Policy states the company is called ‘Dragon’s Prophet Games GmbH’ which doesn’t exist according to the German company registration office. Their Privacy Policy also has mentions of Infernum, the original publisher which confirms my theory that they just copied the old website and re-uploaded it.

EDIT: I was just kicked from the ‘official’ discord after voicing my concerns over the discrepancies. Don’t give these guys your money.”

In addition, the original game’s website was dragonsprophet.com while the copycat website is dragonsprophets.com. According to the site, the game started closed beta in January this year and is currently running a Halloween event for the whole month of June. Real or fake? You be the judge. But it’s probably safe to err on the side of caution for now, at least until we get an official statement from the game’s developer, Runewaker.
