Elder Scrolls Online is ending 2023 on a high note, touting nearly two million new users throughout the year, not including those playing on the Epic Games Store. The nine-year-old MMORPG also recorded its highest monthly active users since 2015 in July following the release of its Necrom chapter, which also received rave reviews from its players.

Meanwhile, the studio is now going on their holiday break but promises more story content next year, especially after they left players hanging at the end of Necrom. “Next year will kick off with a Global Reveal show in January, and we are excited to continue the story from last year but in a different part of Tamriel,” studio director Matt Firor teased. “It’s going to be great, and we have some new systems that I think everyone will want to hear about.”

It also looks like the team’s new update cadence is working out well for them. Firor says that they’ll continue to focus on adding new repeatable content in 2024 similar to its Infinite Archive roguelike dungeon, in addition to the promised story quests.

“ESO is always about great storytelling, so we won’t abandon story quests and content, but we will balance it out with more systems like dungeons, trials, and special new content,” Firor said. As previously, announced 2024 will mark the game’s 10th anniversary which the devs will be celebrating with a world tour that will take them to 12 different countries over the next two years.
