Elder Scrolls Online Previews Blackwood’s New Oblivion Portals World Event

elder scrolls online blackwood oblivion portal bannerOver the past few weeks, ZeniMax Online Studios has been shining the spotlight on the new Companion System coming to Elder Scrolls Online when Blackwood comes out next month. Of course, the new pet-like allies aren’t the only new thing that will be coming to the game in the highly-awaited chapter.

According to the latest dev blog, Oblivion Portals will also be one of Blackwood’s main features. And yes, they’re the same portals that sparked the events of Elder Scrolls Online IV. In ESO, they’re a new world event that randomly spawn in the western, northern, and southern regions of Blackwood.

“[. . .] These portals to Mehrunes Dagon’s realm have begun surfacing throughout the region without warning, all in accordance with his dire plans,” said the team. “Whatever Dagon’s plans are for the people of Blackwood, they involve the Duke of Storms and a mysterious machine deep within his Deadlands fortress. It’s up to you to enter the portal and confront whatever foes lay in wait on the other side—no easy task!”

Players who enter an Oblivion Portal will be transported to one of three starting locations, each with different themes based on Mehrunes invasion plans.

“Once you’ve fought your way through one of these three wings, you’ll reach a shared central location, the Duke of Storm’s fortress,” the team explained. “However, standing in your way is no shortage of foes, including the Prince of Destruction’s most elite soldiers.”

Along the way, players will face off against Daedra of all shapes and sizes. They’ll also go up against several of Mehrunes’ champions.

“The packs of enemies provide a more challenging experience than they would encounter in a Public Dungeon, so players might need to bring a friend (or a companion) to help clear a path,” the studio warned.

Players who manage to make their way to the fortress and defeat the Duke of Storms will get the chance to earn special rewards, including Oblivion-infused set items, potions, and mythic Antiquity leads. Additionally, players also have the opportunity to acquire new Deadlands-themed furnishing patterns.

Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood is slated for release on June 1 on PC/Mac and Google Stadia and June 8 on consoles. More information can be found on the official site.
