Elyon Changes Business Model, Will Launch as a Free to Play MMORPG on October 20

Kakao Games announced today that Elyon, their upcoming fantasy MMORPG, will be free to play instead of the originally planned buy to play model. The game will also now be launching on October 20, 2021. Anyone who pre-ordered the game will be offered compensation.

Despite the change in business models, the game's cash shop will not be altered and this decision will not be used "as a justification to add P2W mechanics". Time will tell if this promise proves true or not, but the decision to go free to play is a smart one as it gives Elyon the greatest chance of success by making it as accessible as possible.

It's good to see a firm release date on the game now (Oct 21). Elyon used to be known as 'Ascent: Infinite Realm' and was first teased back in late 2017, so its been nearly 4 years since it was first revealed. Now that its going to be free to play, I'll definitely be giving it a chance.
