EVE Online Breaks 50K Concurrent Players Over The Weekend

This past Sunday EVE Online's Tranquility server broke 50,000 concurrent players. It's not an all-time record but it is an impressive high in recent months. The current record is still set at just over 65,000 players, set back in May of 2013. It doesn't look like we'll be breaching that one just yet but the Ascension update has certainly given a boost to the EVE Online community.

xNow the questions is, will they stay in New Eden?

Steam Charts are showing a strong consistent playerbase, relative to before the free-to-play update: from an average of 1300 players to around 5500 concurrent players as of this writing. But, keep in mind that the free-to-play accounts are limited in what skills they can train, i.e. what ships they can fly and what activities they can participate in. I wonder how many of the influx playerbase will stick around long enough to purchase a subscription (or Plex).

I'm hopeful. I've been playing quite a bit of EVE this past week, and the EVE Online community has been exceptionally helpful in rehabituating newbies like myself into the game's universe. We'll see where EVE lands in a month or so.
