Eve Online: Emergency Downtime Due To SSO Login Bug

Eve Online’s developers, CCP Games, recently discovered an issue when they updated their Singularity test server’s login server to Single Sign-On, or SSO. The bug caused the system to inadvertently give users valid authentication tokens even if the account wasn’t theirs and perform any in-game action as if they were the owner of the said account.

While the Singularity SSO bug has been fixed, it unfortunately carried over to Tranquility, the game’s live server, when the update was deployed yesterday. This prompted the devs to temporarily shut down the server to prevent any more authentication tokens from being issued and to prevent access to player accounts while they tried to resolve the problem. So far CCP games has yet to find evidence that any unauthorized access had taken place but are continuing the investigation on the matter.

CCP Games has apologized to the Eve Online community for the inconvenience and have assured players that they are making sure that all affected accounts are as they should be.
