CCP Games has confirmed that its multiplayer sci-fi space dogfighting game EVE: Valkyrie will be shutting down on August 5th. As MMO Fallout notes, the game is now being taken off digital shelves and has already been removed from Steam and the PlayStation Store but is still available for purchase on the Oculus store.

“All good things come to an end, even to the immortal Valkyries,” announced CCP. “Today, we have begun the process of discontinuing support for EVE: Valkyrie to focus CCP Games’ efforts and resources on new developments in our evolving portfolio of EVE Universe titles.”

The news doesn’t come as a surprise given the community’s poor reception of the game. EVE Valkyrie first launched in 2016 as a pre-bundled launch title for the Oculus Rift VR headset. It also came out on PC and PlayStation 4 in 2017 as EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone with the VR requirement removed and cross-platform multiplayer support just one month before CCP Games decided to stop development on all their VR projects. CCP handed the game over to Sumo Digital in 2018 and it’s been in development limbo ever since.

“We are incredibly proud of what we accomplished with EVE: Valkyrie and its Warzone expansion and want to extend our deep appreciation to all our players for their support throughout the game’s lifecycle,” said the developers. “It is an honor to have been a part of such a dedicated community.”

The servers will officially be turned off on August 5th along with the game’s official website and social media accounts. Customer support for the game will also end once the servers have been shut down.

The official announcement can be found on the EVE: Valkyrie Steam page.
