Evercore Heroes is a new competitive multiplayer PvE game that promises a unique experience that takes a page from MOBA’s, tower defense, and ARPGs. Developer Vela Games, however, insists that it’s not a MOBA, although it plays and looks like one.

“Each EVERCORE Heroes match is a pulsating competitive PvE session between four teams of four mighty heroes aiming to prove themselves to be the world’s best team of heroes,” explains the devs. “To win, players must power up their heroes, charge powerful magical artifacts called Evercores, survive onslaughts of dangerous enemies, and triumph in the final challenge.”

Players will need to work together to accomplish a random set of objectives while trying to outplay opposing teams during critical stages of the match. Teams will eventually be eliminated until only two remain, who’ll then go head-to-head in the finale. “Ultimately, the best teams will find the right composition and strategy, balancing tradeoffs between building their own power and making the battle more difficult for rival teams,” says the Dublin-based studio.

Evercore Heroes kicked off its PC closed beta earlier today after a bit of a delay. While the game will be free-to-play on launch, fans who want to take the game for a test drive will need to pony up at least $19.99 for a founder’s pack to get a closed beta key. The pack will also include an exclusive Founder’s Battlepass and an extra key (or three) to give away.

The closed beta test features three unique maps with different item sets, enemies, and final head-to-head encounters. Players will be able to choose from sixteen playable heroes which includes tanks, damage dealers, and support characters with more to be released over the next few weeks.

“As it’s still a Beta, we are not yet ready to launch the game to the whole wide world,” says Vela Games. “We have therefore decided to first open up the doors for those that want to support and grow with us before opening up the game to the rest of the world. Once the game reaches Open Beta at a later time it will be free to play for everybody!”

The official gameplay walkthrough video below offers more information on what the game has to offer. Vela Games was founded by veteran developers from Blizzard Entertainment, Riot Games, Epic, and Electronic Arts, so the expectations are high for this one.
