After being on the backburner for a few months now, Little Orbit has confirmed that they’re in the final stages of resurrecting Fallen Earth Classic to give fans something to do while they wait on the actual Fallen Earth reboot.

“I am happy to confirm that Fallen Earth Classic is going to be a real thing,” said Little Orbit CEO Matt Scott. “We are now at the very late stages of getting the servers back online, and as some of you on Discord have noticed, parts of the game are responding again. There will be an announcement soon on the day of launch, but before that goes out, I want to raise a couple discussion points here to set expectations properly.”

On top of the list is the state of the classic servers at launch. According to Scott, they wanted to relaunch the game as soon as possible and had to cut out a few of the planned improvements and fixes, at least for the time being.

“I’m doing this in the spirit of fun and just getting the game back online. There were decisions that had to be made in order to pull this off,” he said. “[. . .] I had to balance getting this back online in a reasonable amount of time versus the laundry list of things I’m sure players would have wanted. We did our best. My hope is that players will enjoy the challenge of re-conquering the wastelands from scratch while they wait for the next version of the game.”

Scott also noted that they’ve upgraded the game’s old 32-bit Linux servers to 64-bit and a new operating system but had to wipe all characters, progression, items, and purchases in the process. He also admitted that they don’t know how the new servers will function until they get a bunch of actual players into the game.

Another point discussed is the game’s business model. Scott assures players that the game will be free-to-play with no monetization system in place. Players will not be able to purchase anything from the cash shop but he says that he’s looking into possibly giving everyone access to the highest level subscription rewards.

As for the promised reboot, Scott says that it’s still “backed up behind some other projects.”
