Final Fantasy XIV: Patch 4.06 Out, Over 10m "Cumulative" Players Have Tried The Game Since Launch

Final Fantasy XIV patch 4.06 is here and with it comes quite a few new changes. Most notably, Dragoons, Ninjas, Bards, Machinists, and Summoners all received some buffs and the automatic logout function has been removed (congestion has died down a lot since Stormblood's launch). Players can access the full patch notes here.

Another interesting bit of Final Fantasy XIV news is that the game has surpassed 10 million cumulative players since launch. This is a bit of an odd metric as it counts anyone who has ever played the game, but it's the only metric Square Enix has ever announced for the game. This same metric sat at 6 million players just last year, so an increase of 4 million players is still impressive! Much of the recent boost can likely be attributed to the launch of Stormblood, the game's second expansion. The game also remains the second most popular subscription based MMORPG after World of Warcraft, mostly because there aren't too many other subscription MMORPGs left.
