DOTA 2 and League of Legends competitor Heroes of Newerth has officially shut down after 12 years of operation. Developer S2 Games rolled out the MOBA’s final patch way back in February 2019 and announced their plans to sunset the game in December 2021. Several farewell events took place since then leading up to its final day of operation.”

“HON was part of my life, sad to say to goodbye,” one player wrote on the official forums. “But today I had so much fun, a lot of Twitchers online, no toxicity. If every day was like today, we wouldn’t be saying goodbye.”

Other players also shared the same sentiment and an outpouring of farewell messages have flooded the forums. As for the devs, they simply wrote, “HON is now officially closed. Thank you for playing!”

I’m more of a DOTA guy but it’s always sad to see a game that was part of our childhood close down. RIP Heroes of Newerth.
