Hi-Rez Studios President Promises Better Quality Patches For SMITE Starting With Release 5.8

smite chernobogApparently, SMITE is getting patched a whopping 48 weeks a year for both PC and console combined. A year is 52 weeks just in case you’re wondering. This is according to a subreddit post by Hi-Rez Studios President Stewart Chisam. While it’s quite an achievement, Chisam says that he’s not too happy with the quality of the patches.

“[…] our current quality is not at all where it should be, and we strongly believe our quality can and should be better. We’ve been saying that for a while, and things have gotten better -- but not good enough. So I think bigger changes are needed. We can’t keep doing things the same way and expecting different results.”

In order to get better, we need to do some things differently. And, most especially, we need to put a higher emphasis on pre-release public testing,” says Chisam. Hi-Rez is now beefing up their QA team and adjusting the schedule of patch releases to “make sure that each release has more time for QA testing and quality.

Consequently, Release 5.8 for the PC will be delayed, along with future patches. In addition, the SMITE team will no longer be announcing the expected release date for a patch until they have a “firm” date. This gives devs the freedom to delay a patch’s release and fix any problems without disappointing the community. “Patches should be released when they are ready,” Chisam explains. “We want to find the right balance between being able to provide frequent updates and being able to provide high quality updates, without being paralyzed in what we can deliver.”

Speaking of updates, Hi-Rez recently rolled out the Drop the Beat update for consoles which includes new God skins and a whole lot more. Chernobog, the Lord of Darkness, will also be making his debut in the upcoming Release 5.8. Check out the videos below to learn more.
