Legends Of Aria Is Being Upgraded To A AAA Game With Blockchain Elements

Late last year, blockchain company Blue Monster Games bought out Citadel Studios along with their flagship game Legends of Aria and its proprietary game engine. Naturally, this brought up concerns on the future of the game and whether or not it will have blockchain mechanics built-in. The time for speculation is over as Reaper Games (formerly Blue Monster) CEO Joseph Rubin lays out their plans for the full loot and fully-moddable sandbox MMORPG.

The good news is that the team is currently working to upgrade the game from indie-quality to a 3D AAA-grade game with the option for a top-down isometric view. A new map, custom houses, boats, and mobile functionality will also be added. Kickstarter backers will receive exclusive rewards for their support while the two existing servers will be relegated to legacy status as Legends of Aria Classic. No wipe required.

In-game poker tables will also be added with blockchain integration in the form of ARIA tokens. A free-to-play version will also be available for those who’d rather not spend money on the game.

“The new client, moving forward, will have two game modes: (1) a free-to-play option and (2) a play-to-earn option. The free-to-play mode will not include the blockchain elements, while the play-to-earn gamemode will include them; however, to access the play-to-earn mode, you’ll need to purchase an NFT character. In addition, with this play-to-earn version, the coins in the game will hold real value, as we’ll launch them as cryptocurrencies.”

Rubin reveals his plans to raise $10 million from selling ARIA tokens which will go towards game development and marketing with the hope of competing with other popular blockchain games such as Axie Infinity.

“There is no blockchain game on the market with the intricacy and depth of Legends of Aria, as well as no crypto-MMORPG on the market,” Rubin said. “This means that Legends of Aria will be the first and only blockchain MMORPG to go live in 2022.”
