Bitbox’s medieval sandbox simulator Life is Feudal is set to make a comeback under a new owner in the form of Malaysia-based video game developer Long Tale Games.

The franchise spawned multiple versions over the years, including global and Chinese MMOs, a smaller-scale multiplayer game called Life is Feudal: Your Own, and a village builder called Life is Feudal: Forest Village. All of the versions ultimately shut down individually over the past three years, with the global MMO sunsetting in January 2021.

Long Tale Games, however, took control of the franchise late last year and has now started testing its own MMO version. However, there are a couple of important details to note for those interested in participating in the playtest.

Firstly, a $20 subscription fee is required to access the testing phase. Additionally, players need to be aware that there will be a full wipe when the game officially launches. While this may disappoint some, it is a necessary step to ensure a fresh start for all players when the title transitions into its full release.

It’s also worth mentioning that Long Tale Games has a keen interest in cryptocurrencies and NFTs. The studio has yet to confirm whether their version will include blockchain features, but that’s a very real possibility. And, much like Life is Feudal’s previous owners, Long Tale is also planning to release multiple versions of the game.

“Our team is committed to preserving the core features of this beloved medieval survival simulator, and we are also prioritizing the support and development of standalone versions for the game, including those proposed or developed by the community,” the studio said.

With the game back online for testing and under the stewardship of Long Tale Games, players can anticipate a return to the immersive and challenging medieval world they once loved. Stay tuned for further updates.
