The MMO version of Life is Feudal will be shutting down on January 18, 2012, shortly after the 3 year anniversary of the game's Steam release. The news was announced on the official site and on the Steam page on December 18, 2020 with a lengthy post describing how the shutdown came to be.

It seems the developers largely blame an ongoing legal dispute with the game's US publishers for the impending shut down. While details are left vague, perhaps for legal reasons, the bottom line seems to be the developer ran out of funds to keep staff and server bills paid.

A final patch is scheduled to be released prior to the shut down so long time players can experience what the developers have been working on before the final sunset. The GM team will even be accepting requests for aerial screenshots of player's villages/towns/castles/bases, with the intent of immortalizing those accomplishments in an online gallery.

The hardcore sandbox MMO peaked at 5300 concurrent players shortly after its release, but was unable to hold on to many of them. The peak player count hasn't reached 1000 in the past several months.

No word yet on how this development with effect the single player version of the game titled Life is Feudal: Your Own which still boasts a larger playerbase than the multiplayer variant.
