Lord Of The Rings Online Players Complain About ‘Ghost Nerfs’ In The Latest Patch

This week’s Lord of the Rings Online patch comes with a whole host of fixes for last week’s big content update. These include the ability to repeat missions in the new Elladan and Elrohir Further Adventures questline and a fix for the bug that prevented the last quest from being completed. Brawlers were also thankfully given a free mandatory trait tree reset following the extensive list of changes made to the class in Update 33.1.

Unfortunately, this week’s patch also included various nerfs to stat tomes and food effects which were allegedly not included in the official patch notes. Given Standing Stone’s history of rolling out so-called “ghost nerfs”, the community is now lashing out at the studio on the official forums.

According to one player, “Their changes apparently caused tomes to give half attributes until 105 and then scale to full at max level where the gains from them become so relatively miniscule as to not matter anymore by that point.” The benefits of some of the game’s food items were also reportedly nerfed to half of their original values.

Standing Stone responded with a post saying that the changes were listed in the patch notes but admitted that they didn’t provide enough information. “The specific change in the notes was: ‘Some player-level based stat progressions were tweaked a bit to smooth out values below level 105,’” says the studio. “This was an adjustment to underlying progressions, and we should have made it clearer that levels 60-85 would see a noticeable decrease in some skill and consumable based effects.”

Whether it was clear or not, it looks like the changes are here to stay, although there might still be the chance studio might decide to come to some sort of compromise if enough players complain about it… or maybe not.
