One of the more noteworthy announcements during yesterday’s Epic Games Summer Showcase is a new Lord of the Rings multiplayer survival game called Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. As the title suggests, the game will bring players back to the ancient dwarven realm of Khazad-dum, more commonly known as Dwarrowdelf or Moria.

“Welcome to The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, the only survival crafting video game set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, the iconic fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Summoned to the Misty Mountains by Lord Gimli Lockbearer, players take control of a company of Dwarves tasked to reclaim the lost spoils from the Dwarven homeland of Moria—known as Khazad-dûm or Dwarrowdelf—in the depths below their very feet. Their quest will require fortitude, delving deep into the Mines of Moria to recover its treasures.”

The game will feature procedural-generated mines deep within three legendary mountains where players take on the role of the Dwarves of Durin’s Folk. They must mine and gather resources, hunt for food, construct bases, and manage their sleep, temperature, and noise levels. Keeping the racket down will ensure that you don’t attract the unwanted attention of dangerous creatures living within the mines, including bloodthirsty Orcs.

Players will be able to take on the challenge of reclaiming the iconic mines alone or with up to 7 other players.

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is slated to launch in spring 2023 on the Epic Games Store. The official site is now live for those who want to find out more about the new Lord of the Rings game. You’ll also find the official announcement trailer right down below.
