MapleStory 2’s Chinese Version Prepares To Shut Its Doors In November

maplestory 2 darkness looms

Unfortunately for MapleStory 2, it didn’t get as big of a following as the original MapleStory game and is now shutting down in China a little over two years after the global version closed its doors. The Chinese version will officially be taken offline on November 2nd, presumably once Tencent’s licensing deal with Nexon expires.

In preparation for the game’s closure, new-player registrations and premium currency sales have been disabled as of yesterday while the Chinese forums and customer support will remain operational up until November 7th. Any unused premium currency will have already been converted to a corresponding compensation package that players will be able to use until the servers inevitably go dark.

With the MapleStory 2’s Chinese version shutting down, the only remaining fully-operational version of the game is the original Korean release, but even that has apparently been relegated to maintenance mode.
